Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies and Ford CEO Jim Farley have highlighted Max Verstappen’s influence in shaping their new power unit, set to debut under Formula 1’s 2026 regulations.

With Red Bull Powertrains and Ford developing engines to supply both Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls, Mekies likened the challenge of starting from scratch to “climbing Mount Everest.”
Speaking at the Italian Grand Prix, Farley stressed Verstappen’s importance in keeping the project steady: “The way he has provided stability – without drama – in an environment where we’re all just trying to do our jobs. Our respect for Max has only grown.”
Mekies underlined the Dutchman’s involvement beyond the cockpit: “Max is doing a lot more than just asking for numbers. He’s testing in simulators, working with engineers on both sides to shape how these 2026 cars will generate power and downforce. He’s central to the project.”
The new power unit partnership comes as Honda shifts its focus to Aston Martin from next season.
