Charlotte Hornets have signed head coach Charles Lee to a contract extension following a significant turnaround season in the NBA.

Lee, 41, who previously won NBA titles as an assistant coach with Milwaukee and Boston, has overseen major improvement in his two years in charge. The Hornets went 63–101 across his tenure, but this season marked a strong breakthrough as they finished 44–38, recording a franchise-best 25-win improvement and ending the campaign with a strong 28–10 run.
Charlotte narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, falling one game short after reaching the play-in stage, where they beat Miami but lost to Orlando for the final Eastern Conference seed.
Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson praised Lee for building a strong foundation, highlighting a team culture based on accountability, hard work, and professionalism.
Lee said he is grateful to continue leading the team and believes the franchise is moving in a positive direction, adding that they are “just getting started” and focused on building further success in the future.
