The Boston Celtics could emerge as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the NBA’s punishment of the Los Angeles Clippers following the league’s investigation into the Kawhi Leonard salary-cap scandal.
The NBA came down hard on the Clippers after the prestigious law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz found that the organisation’s executives conspired with Leonard’s management team and third-party companies to circumvent the league’s salary-cap rules.
While much of the punishment targets the Clippers’ ownership and front office, the loss of five first-round draft picks could have significant consequences for the team’s roster-building plans.
With their future draft capital severely depleted, the Clippers could be forced to create additional cap space and potentially trade some of their key players to replenish the assets they will need for a long-term rebuild.
That could be particularly good news for Boston, which is in line to receive the Clippers’ 2028 first-round pick.
