LeBron James and Sixers Spoil Knicks’ Championship Party in NBA Season Opener

LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers spoiled the New York Knicks’ championship celebrations with a 106-100 victory at Madison Square Garden as the 2026-27 NBA season tipped off.

The Knicks raised their championship banner and received their rings before the game, celebrating their first NBA title in 53 years. But the party ended in disappointment as Philadelphia rallied from an early deficit to secure the win.

Tyrese Maxey led the Sixers with 28 points, while new teammate Jaylen Brown contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists. James, beginning his record-extending 24th NBA season with his fourth team, finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Joel Embiid added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 21 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 19 points and 12 rebounds. New York remained within striking distance late in the fourth quarter, but Philadelphia held firm to start the season with an impressive road victory.
