Antonelli’s Monza Miracle From P19

Kimi Antonelli produced a sensational comeback at Monza, winning the Italian Grand Prix from 19th on the grid in front of his home crowd.

The Mercedes driver had started near the back after taking new power-unit components, but quickly charged through the field. A mid-race Virtual Safety Car also helped him switch to fresh tyres before he eventually hunted down and passed teammate George Russell for the lead.

The victory is historic — Antonelli became the first Italian driver to win at Monza in 60 years, since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966. Starting from P19 also makes it only the second-lowest starting position ever for a driver to win an F1 race.

“It feels like a dream coming true,” Antonelli said after the race.

The win is his seventh of the 2026 season, extending his championship lead over Russell to 66 points.

P19 to P1 at Monza. In front of the Tifosi. What a drive from Kimi Antonelli.
