End of an Era: Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap Split After 20-Year Bond

In a heartbreaking moment for Indian badminton fans, iconic couple Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap have officially announced their separation, ending a two-decade-long relationship that was built on shared dreams, fierce competition, and quiet companionship.

Their story began at a training camp in 1997, but it wasn’t until they came under the guidance of Pullela Gopichand in Hyderabad that sparks truly began to fly. By 2005, their friendship had blossomed into love — though the duo chose to keep their relationship under wraps for almost a decade, even from close friends. “It was like school love,” Kashyap once recalled, adding they were “childish” to keep it a secret.

Their bond strengthened on and off the court. Saina’s bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and Kashyap’s historic run to the quarterfinals were key moments that brought them closer. Kashyap became an integral part of Saina’s training setup, even after transitioning into coaching, and was by her side when she won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The two finally tied the knot later that year in a quiet ceremony. Now, after more than 20 years together and nearly six as a married couple, the two have decided to go their separate ways — leaving fans stunned and saddened.

Despite the split, their legacy as one of India’s most beloved sports couples endures.
