Pearly–Thinaah Set to Make Malaysian History as World Tour Finals Top Seeds

Malaysia’s women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are on the brink of a historic milestone as they prepare to enter the season-ending World Tour Finals in Hangzhou as the No. 1 seeds — the first Malaysians ever to achieve the feat.

Their seeding is based on the Nov 25 BWF World Tour rankings, where the duo sit at the top ahead of China’s Liu Sheng Shu–Tan Ning. Previously, Malaysia’s highest seeds at the prestigious event were Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik (No. 2) in 2020 and Lee Zii Jia (No. 8) in 2021.

Badminton icon Datuk Razif Sidek praised the breakthrough, calling it a sign of growing maturity and consistency. He also believes Pearly–Thinaah have what it takes to challenge Liu–Tan for the title.

Razif expressed confidence that the Malaysians are capable of reaching at least the semi-finals, even if drawn alongside China in the group stage, and urged them to seize the opportunity to chase their biggest career victory.
