Tang Jie–Ee Wei Make History at World Tour Finals

World champions Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei became the first Malaysian pair to reach the semi-finals of the World Tour Finals (WTF) after securing a second Group B victory in Hangzhou on Wednesday (Dec 18).

The world No. 3 mixed doubles pair fought back to defeat Indonesia’s world No. 10 Jafar Hidayatullah–Felisha Pasaribu 17-21, 21-14, 21-15, extending their perfect head-to-head record to six wins from six meetings.

Their semi-final spot was confirmed later in the day when China’s world No. 2 Feng Yan Zhe–Huang Dong Ping overcame Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat–Shevon Lai in another group match.

“It is always very close against the Indonesian pair. They are competitive, but we trust our partnership and have somehow always managed to overcome them,” said Tang Jie.

Ee Wei stressed that complacency is not an option despite qualifying early.
“We are not going to relax even though we have won two matches. We will go all out, as that is what our coach (Nova Widianto) would want from us,” she said.

Tang Jie–Ee Wei will next face Feng Yan Zhe–Huang Dong Ping in their final group match on Friday.
