The upcoming Thailand Open has seen major changes in the draw, giving Malaysian shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei unexpected opportunities ahead of the Super 500 event in Bangkok.

Lee Zii Jia, currently ranked world No. 64, was initially only a reserve but has now been pushed into the qualifying rounds after several player withdrawals, including higher-ranked competitors. He will begin his campaign against India’s Manav Chopra, ranked 294th, with a possible path through tougher qualifiers for a place in the main draw. The former top-10 player is aiming to climb back into the world’s top 30 and rebuild momentum.

Meanwhile, Justin Hoh has withdrawn from the tournament, citing poor form after a difficult run at the Thomas Cup. His exit is part of a wider reshuffle in the men’s draw.

In the women’s singles, Goh Jin Wei, ranked world No. 54, has been promoted into the main draw following a large number of withdrawals—reportedly 16 players stepping out, including several higher-ranked Malaysians. The changes significantly boost her chances of improving her ranking, with a potential second-round clash against world No. 8 Pornpawee Chochuwong if she progresses.

The reshuffle also reflects player workload management after recent team events like the Uber Cup, with some athletes likely being rested ahead of upcoming tournaments such as the Malaysia Masters.
