Warriors Unwilling to Trade Moody or Hield as Kuminga Talks Stall

The Golden State Warriors’ contract negotiations with Jonathan Kuminga have reached a standstill, and now trade talks are being complicated by the team’s unwillingness to part ways with key rotational pieces.

Kuminga, who declined a two-year, $45 million offer from Golden State, is reportedly frustrated with the franchise’s role in stunting his growth and is open to a fresh start elsewhere. The Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns have expressed interest, but no deal has materialized.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Warriors are refusing to include Moses Moody or Buddy Hield in any trade package, despite their contracts being crucial to matching salaries in a potential sign-and-trade.

“Anyone saying the first-round pick protections are the only obstacle to a Kings-Warriors sign-and-trade is wrong,” Amick posted. “Golden State really doesn’t want to move either Buddy Hield or Moses Moody (which would be required).”

Moody, an NBA champion in 2022, has long been praised by both Steph Curry and Steve Kerr for his maturity and work ethic. Hield, who joined last offseason, has provided the team with much-needed shooting depth following Klay Thompson’s departure.

As it stands, Kuminga is expected to remain a Warrior for the 2025–26 season, with Amick noting that the franchise is preparing as such. However, with nearly two months left before Kuminga’s Oct. 1 qualifying offer deadline, there’s still time for the situation to evolve.

Bottom line: Golden State’s reluctance to part with Moody or Hield signals they value stability — even as Kuminga’s future remains uncertain.
