Malaysia’s K Letshanaa delivered the biggest win of her career by defeating former world champion and eighth seed Nozomi Okuhara in the first round of the US Open. Ranked 42nd, Letshanaa needed just 31 minutes to claim a 21-8, 21-19 victory in their first-ever meeting.
She will face India’s Aakarshi Kashyap in the second round. Fellow Malaysian Wong Ling Ching also impressed, edging out fourth seed Hsu Wen-chi of Taiwan 21-17, 19-21, 22-20 to book a second-round clash with Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova.
