Scott McTominay’s stunning bicycle kick helped Scotland secure a 4-2 win over Denmark and a place at the 2026 World Cup, and fans are comparing it to Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous overhead strike.

The 28-year-old’s opener, scored just three minutes into the qualifier at Hampden Park, drew immediate attention for its acrobatics. Scotland manager Steve Clarke called it “the best overhead kick I’ve ever seen.”
Fans quickly likened McTominay to basketball legend Michael Jordan, echoing past comparisons made to Ronaldo, particularly regarding vertical leaps. Ronaldo’s iconic goal for Real Madrid against Juventus in the 2018 Champions League quarter-final reached 2.38m (7ft 7in) off the ground.
McTominay, standing 4cm taller than Ronaldo, left fans speculating if his strike might have surpassed the Portuguese star’s record.
