Uruguay’s World Cup travel disrupted by paperwork issue

Uruguay’s preparations for their World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia were disrupted after a documentation issue delayed the team’s flight from Mexico to the United States on Sunday.

According to local media reports, the squad’s departure was postponed by several hours because paperwork required by FIFA to process the trip had not been completed in time for takeoff.

The South American side, based in Playa del Carmen, were due to travel to Miami ahead of Monday’s Group H clash against Saudi Arabia.

The delay could also affect Uruguay’s pre-match schedule, with coach Marcelo Bielsa and captain Jose Maria Gimenez potentially forced to cancel their mandatory press conference.

Neither the Uruguayan Football Association nor FIFA immediately commented on the situation.

Despite the setback, Uruguay are still expected to arrive in time for their opening match as they begin their quest for a strong start in the tournament.
