Democratic Republic of Congo coach Sebastien Desabre says his side will play with courage and ambition when they face Portugal in their opening World Cup Group K match, insisting there is no fear despite the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The African nation is making its first World Cup appearance in 52 years, having last competed as Zaire at the 1974 tournament.
Desabre believes his players must embrace the occasion rather than be intimidated by it.
“What we have to do is deal with the pressure of the first game,” he said.
“I want my team to play, so we’ll take risks. Those risks will be measured. There’s no fear ahead of those big events.”
The coach hopes Portugal may be vulnerable in their tournament opener, noting that favourites can sometimes struggle to find their rhythm in their first World Cup match.
Unlike the squad that represented Zaire in 1974, Desabre’s current group features several players competing in top European leagues, including quick and dynamic attackers capable of causing problems for Portugal’s defence.
He also welcomed the fact that all members of his squad are fit and available, giving him greater tactical flexibility.
“We have a great strength that we’ll be using on the pitch,” Desabre said.
“We’re going to get started with our own specific style of play and we are highly motivated and excited to play against such a big team.”
DR Congo’s preparations were affected by the Ebola outbreak at home, although Desabre said the impact was limited because most of his players are based in Europe.
Travel restrictions are expected to reduce the number of Congolese supporters attending matches in person, but the coach believes that will only inspire his players further.
“We have 100 million Congolese people who will be watching us,” he said.
“Of course, we want to perform well. We want to show courage and we’ll do our best on the pitch.”
After facing Portugal, DR Congo will continue their Group K campaign against Colombia and Uzbekistan as they seek a place in the knockout stage.
