Ecuador coach Sebastian Beccacece remains determined to keep his side’s World Cup hopes alive despite a frustrating 0-0 draw against Curacao that leaves them facing an uphill battle to reach the knockout stage.

The South Americans dominated large portions of the match but were repeatedly denied by Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room, who produced a remarkable 15-save performance to secure a historic point for the Caribbean nation. The result leaves Ecuador with just one point from their opening two Group E matches following their earlier defeat to Ivory Coast.
As a result, Ecuador now head into a crucial final group match against Germany knowing they likely need a positive result to have any chance of progressing to the Round of 32.
Despite the disappointment, Beccacece insisted his team must remain focused and continue believing. The Argentine coach acknowledged the pain of dropping points but stressed that the tournament is not over and that Ecuador still have an opportunity to fight for qualification.
Ecuador created numerous chances throughout the contest, finishing with 28 shots, yet found themselves unable to beat the inspired Room. The veteran goalkeeper delivered one of the standout individual performances of the tournament so far, frustrating Ecuador’s attackers time and again.
Beccacece admitted the result was difficult to explain given his side’s dominance, taking responsibility for the outcome while defending the effort shown by his players. He argued that Ecuador deserved far more from the match based on the balance of play and the number of opportunities created.
The draw is particularly surprising considering Ecuador arrived at the World Cup in excellent form. They entered the tournament on a 19-match unbeaten run and had finished as runners-up in South American qualifying behind reigning world champions Argentina.
Now, however, their fate hangs in the balance. With Germany waiting in the final group match, Ecuador face one of the toughest tests possible, but Beccacece remains convinced his team can respond and keep their World Cup dream alive.
