LeBron James has officially announced that he will join the Philadelphia 76ers, ending weeks of speculation and marking what he called the “last decision” of his legendary NBA career.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer leaves the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons to begin his 24th NBA campaign alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and rising star VJ Edgecombe. James said his choice was driven by his desire to keep competing for another championship rather than money or personal reasons.
In a statement shared on social media, the 41-year-old admitted he seriously considered retirement before deciding he still had the passion to play. He described the move to Philadelphia as the final chapter of his career and expressed his determination to help the franchise end its 43-year NBA title drought.
James is expected to wear his familiar No. 23 jersey with the 76ers, becoming the first player in NBA history to suit up for four different franchises while pursuing championships with each. His arrival immediately transforms Philadelphia into one of the favourites for the 2026-27 NBA season.
