Jorge Messi: The Man Behind Leo’s Journey

Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi’s father and longtime agent, has died at the age of 68 after a prolonged illness. His passing marks the loss of one of the most important figures behind the Argentine superstar’s extraordinary career.

Jorge was there from Lionel’s earliest days in Rosario, supporting his son’s development and helping him pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer. When Lionel was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, Jorge played a crucial role in finding a solution and eventually took the family to Spain after Barcelona offered the youngster an opportunity at La Masia.

At just 13, Lionel moved to Barcelona with his father. Jorge remained by his side during the difficult transition from Argentina to Spain, helping his son adapt while ensuring his treatment and football development continued.

As Messi’s career blossomed, Jorge became his representative, handling contracts, commercial matters and major career decisions while generally staying out of the spotlight. From Barcelona to Paris and eventually Inter Miami, he remained a trusted figure behind the scenes.

Jorge’s influence went far beyond football management. He was the father who believed in Lionel before the world knew his name, supported him through uncertainty and helped create the foundation for one of football’s greatest careers.

With Jorge’s passing, football loses not only Messi’s father and agent, but also one of the people who helped make Leo Messi the legend the world knows today.
