Spurs Lose Again as Newcastle Strike Twice

Tottenham’s nightmare start under Roberto De Zerbi continued as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, leaving Spurs without a point or a goal after their opening two Premier League games.

After a goalless first half, Anthony Elanga broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute with a composed finish, before Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle’s lead 10 minutes later.

Spurs created chances but lacked the cutting edge needed to punish Newcastle, while goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček made several important saves to preserve the Magpies’ clean sheet.

The defeat comes just a week after Spurs were beaten 3-0 by Brentford, despite spending around £320m on eight new players this summer.

De Zerbi admitted the biggest issue is finding the “right mentality”, as Tottenham’s expensive new-look squad continues to struggle for balance and confidence.

£320m spent. Two games. Zero points. Zero goals. Spurs fans have every reason to be worried.
