Liverpool’s biggest weakness may not be in attack — it could be their full-back positions.
After two consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, the performances of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have raised serious concerns. Liverpool have conceded 3.88 expected goals across those two games, with both full-backs struggling defensively.
Frimpong’s attacking instincts are clear, but his defensive positioning remains a concern after spending much of his career as a wing-back. Kerkez, meanwhile, has continued to look vulnerable defensively despite arriving from Bournemouth with a strong reputation.
The bigger issue is that Liverpool have struggled to replace the attacking output once provided by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson. Across their first two games, Frimpong and Kerkez attempted 13 crosses but only one found its target.
Liverpool have spent heavily on Bradley Barcola, Victor Muñoz, Jérémy Jacquet and Ronald Araújo, but the full-back positions have largely been ignored.
