Kylian Mbappé says he would dedicate the Ballon d’Or to Africa if he wins the prestigious award next month.
Speaking to RFI, the Real Madrid forward said his upbringing was deeply influenced by African culture and that he has never cut ties with his roots. His father is from Cameroon, while his mother has Algerian roots.
Mbappé also acknowledged the support he has received across Africa, saying he has always felt loved whenever he visits the continent. Around 20% of the Ballon d’Or votes come from African journalists, adding another layer to his comments.
With the Ballon d’Or ceremony set for October 26, Mbappé is openly targeting the biggest individual prize in football.
