José Mourinho arrived at his post-match press conference with printed images of two incidents, insisting Atlético Madrid should have been reduced to nine men in Real Madrid’s 2-1 derby defeat.
Mourinho argued that Cristian Romero’s challenge on Jude Bellingham and Lee Kang-in’s tackle on Federico Valverde both deserved red cards. The refereeing committee later agreed that Lee should have been sent off, while Dean Huijsen’s dismissal for Real Madrid was upheld.
Real were eventually reduced to 10 men after Huijsen’s dismissal, allowing Atlético to take control and secure the derby win. Mourinho also questioned the appointment of referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias and VAR official Daniel Trujillo.
Mourinho came with receipts. Two red cards he says should have been shown — and one has now been backed by the refereeing committee.
