Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik proved their experience still counts as they defeated compatriots Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King 21-18, 21-11 in the second round of the Denmark Open on Thursday.
The 2023 champions were tested in the opening game by the newly formed Aaron Tai-Roy King partnership, who arrived in Denmark fresh from winning the Arctic Open title. However, Chia-Wooi Yik raised their level when it mattered, pulling away in the second game to seal victory in just 33 minutes.
The win marks another positive step for Chia-Wooi Yik following their reunion after five months apart. Their next challenge will be against either Japan’s Hiroki Okamura-Kyohei Yamashita or China’s Hu Keyuan-Lin Xianyi for a place in the semi-finals.
Although Aaron Tai-Roy King’s Denmark Open campaign has ended, their Arctic Open triumph has already shown the potential of this new partnership. The big question now is whether the coaching team will keep them together for future tournaments.
