Lee Zii Jia Takes Family Dispute to Court Over Management Company

Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia has applied for an interim injunction at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to restrict his father and sister from making key financial and management decisions at his company, LZJ Management Sdn Bhd.

The application seeks to prevent his father, Lee Chee Hin, and sister, Lee Zii Yii, who are both company directors, from approving directors’ fees, bonuses, allowances or other financial benefits for themselves beyond their monthly salaries. It also seeks to limit major corporate decisions, including director appointments, asset disposals and changes to the company’s shareholding structure, without court approval.

Zii Jia claims to own 90% of the company, with his sister holding 9% and his younger brother, Lee Tao, owning the remaining 1%. He is also seeking a court order for an extraordinary general meeting to address the company’s management and governance, following an earlier attempt that reportedly failed due to insufficient attendance.

However, the application is being contested by his family. His father has argued that court intervention is unnecessary, maintaining that the company has continued managing matters related to Zii Jia’s professional badminton career. The court’s decision on the injunction has not been confirmed.

The dispute raises serious questions about the relationship between an athlete’s family and the business structure behind a professional career.
