Kimi Antonelli bounced back from a tough run in Europe by securing his first Formula 1 podium at the Canadian Grand Prix, rounding off a strong weekend for Mercedes as teammate George Russell claimed victory.

After struggling with the soft C6 tyres and retiring from races in Imola and Spain, as well as crashing in Monaco qualifying, the 18-year-old rookie found better pace in Montreal’s cooler conditions. Starting fourth, Antonelli overtook McLaren’s Oscar Piastri on the opening lap to take third—a position he held through a well-executed two-stop strategy despite late pressure.
“It was stressful but I’m super happy,” said Antonelli. “I pushed too hard behind Max at the end and wore out my front left, but I’m glad to bring home the podium.”
Reflecting on the overtake, he added: “I had a good launch and carried speed through the first corners. Once I was alongside at Turn 2, I knew I had the edge.”
Antonelli said the new track experience and better tyre management boosted his confidence, though he remained cautious about declaring it a turning point. Looking ahead, he confirmed his next goal: a maiden F1 win.
