Chet Holmgren Lands $250M Rookie Max Extension with Thunder

Chet Holmgren has agreed to a five-year, $250 million rookie maximum extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN. The deal is fully guaranteed and comes just days after the franchise locked in MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with a record-setting $285.4 million supermax deal.

Holmgren, 23, has shown elite two-way potential despite early injury setbacks. After missing his rookie season with a foot injury and being limited to 32 regular-season games last year due to a hip issue, the 7-foot-1 forward was pivotal during OKC’s 2025 championship run, averaging 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds, including eight double-doubles across 23 playoff games.

Drafted second overall in 2022, Holmgren is one of only three players in NBA history to tally 150 three-pointers and 250 blocks in his first two seasons. He joins teammate Jalen Williams — also from the 2022 draft class — as cornerstones of the Thunder’s future. Williams is eligible for a max rookie extension next, entering the final year of his deal on a $6.6 million salary.
