Cody Gakpo is set to remain at Liverpool after the club rejected an £80 million bid from Manchester City on transfer deadline day.
City’s offer was worth £75m upfront plus £5m in add-ons, but Liverpool decided they could not afford to lose Gakpo without enough time to find a replacement.
The Dutch forward had been linked with both City and Tottenham, with reports suggesting he was open to a move. However, Liverpool have now made their position clear: Gakpo stays at Anfield for now.
The decision comes shortly after Liverpool completed their £123m signing of Bradley Barcola, which had fuelled speculation that Gakpo could leave.
For City, the failed move means they must now look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
£80m wasn’t enough — Gakpo is staying put.
