Pierre Gasly produced a stunning qualifying performance at Monza, claiming his first-ever Formula 1 pole position in his 190th Grand Prix.
The Alpine driver clocked 1:21.786, beating Mercedes’ George Russell by just 0.060 seconds. Oscar Piastri was third, only 0.117s off Gasly’s pace.
The achievement makes Gasly the 14th current F1 driver to have taken pole and the 109th different polesitter in F1 history.
It is also a special return to the scene of his greatest F1 triumph — Gasly won his maiden race at Monza in 2020 with AlphaTauri.
And with championship leader Kimi Antonelli starting at the back due to a grid penalty, Gasly suddenly has a huge opportunity to turn his shock pole into an even bigger result.
