Go Pei Kee poised to leave national setup

Women’s doubles shuttler Go Pei Kee appears set to end her time with the national badminton setup, following strong indications that she has decided to move on.

Speculation grew after Pei Kee shared a video on social media on Wednesday documenting her journey as a national player. The video concluded with her packing her belongings at the Academy Badminton Malaysia hostel in Bukit Kiara and saying her goodbyes, suggesting her departure from the squad.

Her situation drew further attention earlier this week when she revealed her intention to split from her partner, Teoh Mei Xing, ending their 19-month partnership. The announcement reportedly caused some unease, as Mei Xing only became aware of the decision through the coaching staff.

Despite the signs, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky stressed that there has been no official confirmation of Pei Kee’s resignation.

“There is nothing official yet as there has been no confirmation. I do not want to say too much because there is still no final decision. Officially, there is nothing yet. No letter has been submitted,” said Rexy.

He added that BAM intends to speak directly with the player to better understand the situation.

“Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei will meet her, because people can say anything on social media,” Rexy added.
