Former national shuttler Goh Liu Ying has praised the Road to Gold (RTG) initiative for extending support to professional players, calling it a much-needed move to improve training conditions.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh recently announced efforts to find a better training venue for independent shuttlers, who are currently training at a sports centre in a Sri Petaling mall.
Liu Ying, who went independent in 2018, highlighted the lack of access to essential facilities and support systems for players outside the national setup. She recalled needing help from the National Sports Council and Sports Institute during her Tokyo 2020 Olympics preparation with Chan Peng Soon.
With today’s packed tournament schedules, she stressed the importance of proper accommodation, physiotherapy, and structured support to help players maintain peak performance.
