Is Díaz the Missing Piece? Bayern Snap Up Liverpool Star in €75m Deal

Bayern Munich have finalised the signing of Colombia winger Luis Díaz from Liverpool in a deal worth €75 million (£65.6 million), ending weeks of speculation over the 28-year-old’s future.

The Bundesliga giants had a previous €67.5m bid rejected but returned with an improved offer to secure one of their top summer targets. The move comes after Bayern lost Leroy Sané to Galatasaray on a free transfer and sold Mathys Tel to Tottenham. Star midfielder Jamal Musiala is also sidelined for months after suffering a broken leg in their Club World Cup final defeat to PSG.

Though Díaz was named in Liverpool’s pre-season tour squad, he was notably absent from their 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan, with manager Arne Slot acknowledging the swirling transfer rumours.

Díaz has now signed a four-year contract and expressed his excitement at joining the German champions:
“I’m very happy – it means a lot to me to be part of Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help the team with my style of play and character. The goal is to win every title possible.”

Last season, Díaz scored 13 Premier League goals and assisted five more as Liverpool won their 20th league title in Slot’s debut campaign. Since joining from Porto in January 2022, Díaz made 103 league appearances—only Salah, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, and Robertson have featured more.

In that span, Díaz contributed 29 goals and 15 assists in the league, with only Salah (117) surpassing his 44 goal involvements.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have already reinvested in their attack with the signings of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, and remain linked with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
