Kazuyoshi Miura, at 58 years and 109 days, became the oldest player in Japan Football League history once again as he made his 40th professional season debut for Atletico Suzuka on Sunday.

Coming on as captain in the 82nd minute of a 2-1 win over YSCC Yokohama, Miura didn’t register a shot but contributed to the victory after recovering from a January leg injury.
“I have no special feeling about my age,” said Miura. “I want to show my character and build from here.”
Miura returned to Suzuka last June after a stint at Portuguese club Oliveirense, where he played eight matches. His career began in Brazil with Santos in 1986, and he later starred in Japan’s J-League, Italy’s Serie A, and clubs across Asia and Europe.
He remains Japan’s second-highest international scorer with 55 goals in 89 matches.
