LeBron James Now the Sole NBA Player with a No-Trade Clause After Bradley Beal’s Waiver

With Bradley Beal officially waived by the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James remains the only NBA player with a true no-trade clause.

ESPN’s NBA Front Office insider Bobby Marks emphasized the rarity of such a clause, explaining that it requires a player to have at least eight years of NBA experience and four consecutive seasons with their current team. Additionally, players cannot include a no-trade clause when signing an extension, making James’ situation even more exceptional.

James recently opted into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025–26 season, securing his eighth year with the Lakers. This decision keeps him under contract for another season while maintaining his full control over any potential trade scenarios.

Throughout his career, James has preferred shorter contracts, often opting out in the offseason to re-sign on flexible deals. This approach allows him to retain leverage and evaluate the Lakers’ competitiveness each year.
