Lyon Relegated to Ligue 2 After Failing Financial Review

Lyon have been officially relegated to Ligue 2 after failing to meet financial requirements set by French football’s governing body, the DNCG. Despite efforts by the Eagle Football Group to stabilize the club’s finances — including selling John Textor’s stakes in Crystal Palace and the Lyon women’s team — the measures were deemed insufficient.

Owner John Textor had expressed optimism following a recent meeting, citing improved liquidity and new shareholder investments, but the DNCG ultimately ruled against the club. Lyon will now compete in France’s second division next season.
