Neymar has reaffirmed that his international career is over, insisting he has no intention of returning to play for Brazil following the Selecao’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 34-year-old made the announcement after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16, a match in which he came off the bench and scored a late penalty in what proved to be his final appearance for the national team.
Speaking after Santos’ Copa Sudamericana victory, Neymar dismissed speculation over a possible return, saying, “My time with the national team is over. I don’t want to anymore.” He added that he gave his “life and blood” for Brazil and is proud of everything he achieved in the famous yellow shirt.
Neymar retires as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals in 130 appearances and becomes only the second Brazilian, after Pelé, to score in four different World Cups. His departure marks the end of a 16-year international career, leaving behind a legacy as one of Brazil’s greatest-ever players.
