Nicolas Jackson Apologises After Costly Red Card in Chelsea’s Club World Cup Defeat

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has issued a public apology after receiving his second red card in four games during the Blues’ 3-1 loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup. Coming on as a substitute, Jackson was sent off for a reckless challenge on Ayrton Lucas just minutes after Bruno Henrique and Danilo turned the game around for Flamengo. Wallace Yan later added a third.

Jackson wrote on Instagram expressing regret to the club, teammates, and fans, admitting he let them down and vowing to learn from the mistake. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said Jackson’s red had no link to Liam Delap’s arrival and called it a “bad moment” for the striker, who will now miss at least the next match against Esperance Tunis.

Defender Marc Cucurella also commented, saying Jackson is “very sad” and must learn from the incident, while acknowledging his importance to the team.
