Real Madrid arrived at MetLife Stadium as the sport’s richest and most storied club, but left humbled and humiliated after a 4-0 thrashing by Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-final.

Backed by a sold-out crowd and featuring Kylian Mbappé in the starting lineup for the first time this tournament, PSG were electric from the first whistle. Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Ousmane Dembélé capitalized on a defensive lapse. Dembélé doubled the lead just three minutes later, before Ruiz added a third with a brilliant team goal in the 24th.
Madrid’s defense, particularly the left flank, was completely overwhelmed by the fluid combinations of Hakimi, Doué, Dembélé, and Ruiz. Fran Garcia and Asencio were repeatedly exposed, while veterans like Antonio Rüdiger looked well off the pace.
PSG were faster, sharper, and more coordinated. Even as they eased off in the second half, they added a fourth through Goncalo Ramos, while Real Madrid barely threatened. The Spanish side looked disjointed and sluggish, with individual brilliance unable to mask collective imbalance.
PSG now head to Sunday’s final against Chelsea as overwhelming favorites. For Real Madrid, this was more than a loss — it was a brutal reality check.
