Ronaldo Refuses to Set Retirement Date as 1,000-Goal Dream Continues

Cristiano Ronaldo is not ready to put a date on his Portugal retirement.

The 41-year-old admitted he considered stepping away from international football after the 2026 World Cup, but decided to continue after conversations with Portugal’s president and new head coach Jorge Jesus. He says he will leave when he feels he can no longer contribute to the team.

Ronaldo currently has 979 career goals and remains determined to reach 1,000. He insists it is not an obsession, but would love to score his 1,000th in a Portugal shirt, calling it the “cherry on the cake”.

He is set to start against Wales in Portugal’s Nations League opener, meaning the 1,000-goal chase continues with the national team.

979 goals. 41 years old. No retirement date yet.
