Despite stepping away from Formula 1 after parting ways with Red Bull, Sergio Perez is far from done. The 35-year-old Mexican is actively exploring a return to the grid in 2026—if the right project comes along.

Perez, who boasts six wins and a runner-up finish in the 2023 Drivers’ Championship, is reportedly in talks with multiple teams, including Cadillac and Alpine. With Cadillac entering F1 next season under Team Principal Graeme Lowdon, experience is said to be a priority, making Perez—and fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas—top contenders for a seat.
Former Red Bull Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley backed Perez’s comeback ambitions, saying, “He has natural speed. When you know how to drive a Formula 1 car, you don’t forget.”
Wheatley, who worked closely with Perez, praised the Mexican’s ability to galvanize a team, calling him a “positive challenger” who even pushed team staff to perform better. “He’s fully focused on performance—and what more could you ask for in a driver?”
Cadillac are expected to finalize their driver lineup in the coming weeks, with Perez very much in the frame.
