The Bundesliga relegation fight is set for a dramatic finale, with Wolfsburg, Heidenheim and St Pauli all level on points heading into the final day of the season — a first in league history.

Wolfsburg currently occupy 16th place, holding a slight advantage with a goal difference three better than both Heidenheim and St Pauli. Although the latter two share the same goal difference, Heidenheim edge ahead thanks to scoring more goals.
St Pauli have the chance to directly influence the outcome when they host Wolfsburg on Saturday, but even victory may not guarantee survival.
Meanwhile, Heidenheim welcome Mainz and could climb out of the automatic relegation places if they win by a bigger margin than the winner in Hamburg. All matches will kick off simultaneously.
The team finishing 16th will enter a two-legged relegation play-off against the third-placed Bundesliga 2 side, while the clubs in 17th and 18th will be automatically relegated.
For Wolfsburg, the stakes are particularly high. Since earning promotion in 1997, the club have never been relegated from the Bundesliga. Heidenheim, by contrast, are only in their third top-flight campaign after reaching the Bundesliga in 2023, while St Pauli are no strangers to moving between divisions.
Wolfsburg’s superior goal difference means a draw could still be enough to secure the play-off spot — provided Heidenheim fail to win.
Heidenheim, however, head into the final round in strong form. They have lost only once in their last seven matches, collecting 12 points during that period and reviving hopes of an unlikely escape from relegation.
At the opposite end of the table, the race for the final Champions League place also remains unresolved.
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have already secured qualification, leaving Stuttgart, Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen battling for the last remaining spot.
Stuttgart sit fourth, level on points with Hoffenheim but ahead by five goals on goal difference. Stuttgart face a difficult away trip to Eintracht Frankfurt, while Hoffenheim travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Leverkusen remain outsiders. They trail both clubs by three points and must defeat Hamburg while hoping both Stuttgart and Hoffenheim lose.
Player to Watch: Yan Diomande
RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s breakout stars this season.
The 19-year-old Ivorian, who joined from Spanish second-tier side Leganes last summer, has impressed with 12 goals and seven assists in his debut top-flight campaign, helping Leipzig secure Champions League football once again.
Speaking to AFP, Diomande admitted he did not expect such rapid progress but said he remains focused on continuous improvement.
“I didn’t imagine everything would happen this quickly, but I have ambition and the vision to become one of the best players,” he said.
