Manchester United paid their respects to the late Diogo Jota with a heartfelt tribute outside Anfield, following the tragic passing of the Portuguese forward and his brother André on July 3 at the age of 28.

Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and United manager Rúben Amorim — all compatriots of Jota — visited Liverpool’s stadium to honour his memory. Fernandes and Dalot, who were international teammates of Jota, laid a wreath among the thousands of floral tributes placed by grieving fans. The red and white bouquet carried a touching message:
“Rest in peace Diogo and André, with deepest condolences from everyone at Manchester United.”
Both players were granted extended leave from pre-season training in light of the tragedy.
The gesture was part of a broader wave of emotion across the football world, where rivalries have been set aside to mourn the loss. Even Manchester City supporters, including the Gallagher brothers, paid tribute by holding up Jota’s shirt during Oasis’ reunion concert — their first in 15 years. Elsewhere, global stars like Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé dedicated their Club World Cup celebrations to Jota’s memory.
In a sport often defined by competition, the shared grief over Diogo Jota’s passing has brought the football family closer than ever.
