Max Verstappen is rewriting Formula 1 history yet again — and could be on course for one of the greatest comebacks the sport has ever seen.

The four-time world champion was 104 points behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri at the end of August, but three wins in his last four races have slashed the gap to just 40.
“For sure, the chance is there,” Verstappen said after completing a dominant US Grand Prix weekend sweep. “We just need to be perfect until the end.”
Red Bull boss Laurent Mekies praised the Dutchman’s relentless drive: “Watching Max is watching history in the making. He keeps surprising us every time he’s on track.”
Former Red Bull sporting director Jonathan Wheatley added, “You can never write Max Verstappen off. If I were McLaren, I’d be looking in my rearview mirrors.”
As the championship heads to Mexico, Verstappen’s momentum has reignited the title race — though Piastri insists he remains confident. “Performance wins championships,” said the Australian. “I still believe I can finish on top.”
