Xavi Takes Charge of Netherlands

Xavi Hernandez has been appointed the new head coach of the Netherlands, becoming their first foreign manager in 48 years. He has signed a four-year contract that will take him through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.

The former Barcelona boss replaces Ronald Koeman, who stepped down after the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco on penalties in the 2026 World Cup last 32.

Xavi, who won the 2010 World Cup with Spain as a player, said his football philosophy was strongly influenced by Dutch legends such as Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels.

His first match will come against Germany in the Nations League on September 24. Now, Xavi faces the challenge of turning the Netherlands’ attacking, possession-based football into major international success.
