Zidane Starts France Era With a Win

Zinedine Zidane began his reign as France head coach with a 1-0 Nations League victory over Turkey, but the biggest concern came after Kylian Mbappé scored the winner.

Mbappé struck in the 54th minute for his 67th international goal, but was forced off just five minutes later with a knee injury. Zidane later admitted the injury did not look encouraging, with Mbappé set to return to Madrid for further assessment.

Zidane also became the first France men’s coach since Aimé Jacquet in 1994 to win his first match in charge. His first week has already brought noticeable changes around the squad, including new training routines, staff structure and a more hands-on approach on the pitch.

The performance itself was controlled rather than spectacular, with France showing flashes of Zidane’s attacking ideas but largely relying on organisation and patience.
