Vozinha Forced to Drop Famous Shirt Name

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha will not be allowed to wear his famous nickname on the back of his shirt after joining Chilean giants Colo-Colo due to league regulations.

The 40-year-old became one of the breakout stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, earning worldwide recognition for his outstanding performances. However, Chilean football rules prohibit players from using nicknames on their jerseys, meaning he must instead wear part or all of his legal name, Josimar José Évora Dias.

Colo-Colo had hoped to capitalize on Vozinha’s global popularity, with his social media following soaring to nearly 30 million during the World Cup. The club has submitted a request to the Chilean Football Association for a special exemption, but no decision has been made.

If the appeal is rejected, the veteran goalkeeper will take the field with “Evora,” “Dias,” or “Evora Dias” on the back of his shirt instead of the name that made him a worldwide sensation.
