Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United’s pre-season squad under Michael Carrick after his successful loan spell at Barcelona. However, bringing him back into the first team could prove a major gamble.
Ruben Amorim may have struggled tactically at United, but his decision to leave Rashford out of the squad helped establish stronger standards and restore harmony within the dressing room.
Rashford later impressed at Barcelona, contributing 28 goals and assists in 49 appearances, but the Spanish club decided against making his loan permanent.
United are short of options on the left, making Rashford’s return understandable. But he will need to prove that his attitude and commitment have changed—and accept that players such as Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko may be ahead of him.
For Carrick, the message is simple: Rashford can earn his way back, but he cannot simply walk back into the team.
