Chelsea began the Xabi Alonso era with a thrilling 3-2 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Blues’ new-look attack immediately impressed, with João Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer all getting on the scoresheet. João Pedro struck inside the opening minute before Rogers added his first Chelsea goal, with Palmer completing the scoring in the second half.
Fulham refused to give up, with Josh King and debutant Gonzalo García getting them back into the game. Chelsea’s defence and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez were repeatedly exposed, however, raising concerns despite the impressive attacking display.
Still, Alonso will be encouraged by the attacking quality on show. Chelsea have plenty to improve, but the new era has started with three points.
