Bella Mir is refusing to let the first defeat of her MMA career derail her progress.

The 23-year-old bantamweight prospect and daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir suffered a major setback Tuesday on Dana White’s Contender Series, losing a unanimous decision to Alex Apodaca. Mir entered the bout as a heavy favorite, but struggled to establish her highly regarded grappling game as Apodaca consistently found success on the feet over three rounds.
Despite the disappointing result, Mir showed a positive mindset in a statement shared the following day, making it clear that she intends to learn from the experience rather than allow the loss to define her career.
Mir acknowledged that she has experienced plenty of setbacks throughout her life and athletic journey, but said each one has helped her develop a stronger mentality and become a better athlete. She also thanked fans for their support and insisted that neither the criticism surrounding the loss nor the defeat itself would break her confidence.
The young fighter also gave credit to Apodaca for her performance, showing respect for the opponent who pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season.
Before the loss, Mir had built an impressive 4-0 professional MMA record, with her previous three victories all coming by first-round submission. She also added a significant achievement to her résumé earlier this year by winning an NCAA Division I wrestling championship at 145 pounds.
While Apodaca earned a UFC contract with the victory, Mir now faces the first rebuilding phase of her MMA career. However, her response suggests she remains determined to improve, address the weaknesses exposed in the fight and return stronger.
For Mir, the defeat may be the first loss on her record, but she appears determined to make sure it becomes a valuable lesson rather than a defining moment.
