At Manchester United, there is rarely a middle ground—only two extremes on a constantly expanding scale.

Last season, United’s struggles in front of goal were evident, scoring just 44 goals in the Premier League—only three teams scored fewer. To fix that, the club spent around £200m this summer on Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.
But after a promising display in their defeat to Arsenal, the conversation has shifted to the other end of the pitch. Altay Bayındır’s error sparked intense criticism, putting the goalkeeping department under the microscope.
Speaking to Sky Sports, manager Rúben Amorim addressed how he’s shielding his players from the noise:
“The first thing I told them is that when you see so many critics, it’s normal to feel upset. But the only way to protect ourselves is to not look at it. You have to be like a monk, especially when problems arise.”
Amorim reminded his players of the bigger picture: “Altay made one mistake, but last year he had very good performances. I try to present the facts and fight false narratives. In the end, players must enjoy life, focus on work, and stay away from the noise online.”
