Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he plans to retire “soon”, saying his family and upcoming marriage have influenced his decision.
The 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward, who recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Saudi club, made the admission during an interview with Piers Morgan.
Despite maintaining peak fitness and continuing to score for Portugal, Ronaldo admitted he is preparing for the end of his remarkable 23-year career.
“I think I will be prepared. It will be tough, of course… probably I will cry,” he said.
“I’ve been preparing my future since I was 25, 26, 27 years old. Everything has an end.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner added that his daughters have encouraged him to marry long-time fiancée Georgina Rodríguez, 31 — a step that may come as he closes out one of football’s greatest careers.
