Liverpool Agree Shock Loan for Ronald Araújo

Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona to sign Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan, in a surprise move that gives the Reds another major defensive option for the 2026/27 season.

The 27-year-old Uruguay international is expected to move to Anfield after Liverpool identified the centre-back as a solution to their defensive shortage. Araújo can also operate at right-back, giving new head coach Andoni Iraola additional flexibility.

The deal is understood to be a straight loan, with reports indicating Liverpool are seeking an option rather than an obligation to buy at the end of the season. The agreement still needs to be formally completed before the transfer is official.

The move represents a major change for Araújo, who has been an important figure at Barcelona in recent years. For Liverpool, it provides experienced cover while allowing the club to avoid committing to a permanent transfer immediately.
